Welcome to Year 1!

Hello and a big warm welcome to Year 1! In our class, we use hands-on and engaging learning opportunities to assist children in their learning journey. Through this transition from Reception into Key Stage 1, we strive to celebrate all achievements and progress, supporting the children as they continue their journey to becoming independent, well-rounded and, most importantly, happy individuals. 

Here you will find the relevant documents to support your child's learning, key information and some pictures of the lovely activities we have been doing together in class. 

Term 5 Learning

Our English focus this term is 'Let's Grow!'. This topic provides great opportunities for cross-curricular learning with Science and D&T, in which we will be growing our own cress seeds and making fruit smoothies. We will be reading Jasper's Beanstalk, Ben Plants a Butterfly Garden, Wake Up!, Oliver's Vegetables and Mr Men Adventure with Minibeasts. We will use these stories to help us to write adverts, instructions, Spring Poems and character descriptions.

In Maths, the children have enjoyed practical learning for Mass and Volume. We have been using weighing scales and different sized containers to make our learning fun and engaging. We will also be learning how to count in 2s, 5s and 10s, as well as dividing by sharing and grouping.
